FORT WAYNE – The Timothy L. Johnson Academy board decided to table a decision on its food service after it received just one bid.
Classic Café, which has served the school for several years, was the sole respondent to the schools request for proposals. The Rev. Mike Nickleson, board president, said although the bid likely addresses what was in the request, it doesnt mean theyre doing everything we want them to do.
The bid was opened during a meeting Thursday, and no board members had an opportunity to review it. I am not going to vote for a contract I havent seen, board member Ian Rolland said.
Rolland suggested the school ask Classic Café for an extension of the previous contract until the board has had a chance to review the proposal and respond to any areas where it sees a need for improvement. Other board members agreed.
Were just not going to get a whole lot thats different (from Classic Café), but we need to understand what were getting, Nickleson said.
The board voted unanimously to table the decision.
Nickleson said a special meeting was the boards only option. The board may have to call a special meeting to approve the contract in time to serve food to students when they return to school Aug. 8.
The school will start the year under its new authorizer Education One LLC, the charter authorizing arm of Trine University. The schools previous sponsor, Ball State University, decided earlier this year not to renew the schools charter.
