TinCaps squander 8-1 lead, teams tied after 6

Fort Wayne had an 8-1 lead entering the fifth inning, but poor pitching and sloppy fielding made it a tie game again.

Lake County scored six runs in the top of the fifth to draw even. TinCaps starter Walker Weickel, who gave up four hits and one earned run to that point, surrendered five hits and four earned runs in that frame alone.

The TinCaps pulled in front again in the bottom of the fifth thanks to some hustle from outfielder Brian Adams, who legged out a base hit and advanced on a throwing error. Consecutive ground balls scored him to make it 9-8.

The Captains, though, took advantage of reliever Colin Rae, who loaded the bases with one out and gave up a single to tie the game again.

The teams have combined for 26 hits, 18 runs and five errors.
