SOUTH BEND – Tommy Rees will start at quarterback for Notre Dame when the season kicks off with the Aug. 31 home game against Temple.
But that is the only thing in concrete right now for the Irish quarterback, who returned to the starting job because Everett Golson was suspended from the university for the fall semester because of an academic issue.
"I didn't name him the starter for all 13 games. I made him the starter for Temple," coach Brian Kelly said of Rees during Friday's news conference to kick off the 2013 season.
"My expectation is that he would take the job and continue to lead our football team. He's the most experienced. He's won. He knows our offense very well. He's a senior, well respected. He's got all those things. It was really a quite easy decision."
I'll have more on Rees, who started every game except the opener in 2011, in Monday's Journal Gazette.
