Stutzman names citizen liaison

Rep. Marlin Stutzman, R-3rd, announced Thursday that he has hired Allen County Council member Kevin Howell as a constituent liaison.

Howell will do community outreach for Stutzman and help military veterans with benefits offered by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. He will work out of Stutzman’s office at the E. Ross Adair Federal Building in downtown Fort Wayne.

Howell replaces Tresa Baker, who retired this week. Baker joined Stutzman last year after working for former Rep. Dan Burton, R-5th.

Howell served in the Marine Corps from 1983 to 1993. Since then, he has taught in Fort Wayne Community Schools, East Allen County Schools and Whitley County Consolidated Schools.

“Kevin is a great fit for our office. Through the years, he has served our country abroad and community here at home,” Stutzman said in a statement.

Howell was elected in 2010 to the County Council’s 1st District seat, which represents southeast Allen County. He is a graduate of Elmhurst High School and Howard University in Washington, D.C.

He is the second elected official named to Stutzman’s staff. State Sen. Carlin Yoder, R-Middlebury, is Stutzman’s district director.
