TinCaps streak ends at 3

The TinCaps followed their first three-game winning streak of the second half with a 5-2 loss to South Bend in South Bend on Wednesday.

Fort Wayne (60-54, 17-28 second half) went 0 for 8 with runners in scoring position and got just 4 1/3 innings out of starter Matthew Shepherd.

Shepherd gave up all seven of the Silver Hawks' hits and three earned runs. Another two crossed for South Bend (71-44, 27-19) on a pair of fielding errors by the TinCaps.

Silver Hawks starter Jesse Darrah, who has given Fort Wayne fits this season, went seven innings with only four hits. He struck out five to get his 10th win of the season for South Bend.

The TinCaps strung together a short rally in the top of the ninth after eight scoreless innings, although both runs were scored off walks. South Bend pitcher Enrique Burgos came on in the middle of the inning with the bases loaded and walked two runs in.

The TinCaps fell to 2-12 against the Silver Hawks this season.
