A small plane crashed Sunday in a cornfield northeast of Waterloo, leaving the pilot with injuries that were not life-threatening, according to the DeKalb County Sheriffs Department.
The pilot, Patrick Hale, 66, of Angola, had taken off from the Waterloo airport on U.S. 6 east of town. He was flying an enclosed, ultralight plane when he lost control of the rudder and crashed into the field north of County Road 22 and west of County Road 43, the sheriffs department said.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the field just after noon.
With bleeding from his head and an injury to his hand, Hale was taken to a hospital in a private vehicle, the sheriffs department said.
