Komets add two more

The Komets' wish list just got a little shorter.

The team announced Tuesday it had added two more defensemen -- an acknowledged goal -- to bring the roster to 23. The new additions are 27-year-old Nick Tuzzolino, a 6-foot-6 blueliner who made his pro debut with Fort Wayne when he appeared in six games in 2006-07, and Drew Olson, a 23-year-old who finished his college career at Minnesota-Duluth last year.

Tuzzolino, a seventh-round pick by the New York Islanders in the 2005 NHL entry draft, was an ECHL second-team All-Star for Utah last year, scoring five goals and 36 points. His 31 assists were fifth among ECHL defensemen and his 21 power-play assists led the league. He also racked up 160 penalty minutes.

Olson, meanwhile, scored three goals and 21 points with 109 penalty minutes in 147 games for UMD. The Brainerd, Minn., native helped Minnesota-Duluth to the NCAA championship in 2010-11. He made his pro debut last season with the Peoria Rivermen of the AHL, scoring an assist in five games. He was a fourth-round pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2008 NHL entry draft.

"Nick has been at the top of our priority list for the past month," Komets coach Gary Graham said in a release. "He has been that top veteran D-man we have been looking for that can play big minutes and in all situations."

Olson, Graham says, will be "one of the best skating D-men in the league this year."
