Herbs for butterflies

I have planted lots of herbs and mixed them in with the vegetable plants in my garden. This year I have basil, parsley, cilantro, rosemary, sage, thyme, and fennel.

The mint and oregano are in pots because I don't want these plants taking over the garden.

I love having fresh herbs on hand to cook with and at the end of the season I put some of them in a pot and bring them indoors so that I can continue to have some fresh herbs.

The other wonderful benefit of the herbs is that the black swallowtail butterflies need the herbs to lay their eggs. I have several black swallowtail caterpillars on my fennel and parsley. They never eat the whole plant, so I can share.
