Girls soccer

– Luers and Dwenger – led the area contingent last year in making it the furthest in the postseason.

The Knights got to a Class A semistate championship match but lost 4-1 to Mishawaka Marian, while the Saints fell in the 2A semistate semifinals 3-2 to Crown Point to prevent any northeast Indiana team from advancing to the state finals.

Also winning sectional titles and advancing to the regional were Homestead, Leo, Warsaw and Norwell, all in 2A.

This season brings new hope. Here are some of the individuals and teams that will make up the storylines of 2013:


Kellee O’Shaughnessy, Bishop Dwenger: The junior forward had 22 goals and 11 assists.

Hannah Miller, Homestead: The senior midfielder was first team All-NHC and All-District in 2011 and 2012.

Amber Hoot, Carroll: The sophomore midfielder had 12 goals and 10 assists.

Addie Reimbold, Bishop Luers: The talented basketball player also earned All-District honors in soccer last year.

Alex Seabeck, Blackhawk Christian: The junior goalkeeper had 174 saves.


Bishop Dwenger: O’Shaughnessy returns for the Saints, along with senior Natalie Lebamoff and juniors Liz Ball, Hailey Haines and Hailey Stephenson.

Leo: The Lions get everyone back from a team that won the ACAC and was a regional runner-up.

Homestead: The NHC co-champions took a hit graduation-wise but still return Miller, senior defender Morgan Cole and senior midfielder Ally Link.

Carroll: The Chargers graduated a lot of talent but return Amber Hoot, senior Erica Hoot, junior Matea Knispel, senior Erika Meyers and senior Julia Jackson.

Norwell: The sectional champion Knights return seniors Alex Hartman, Kylee Byerly and Kim Sterrett.


Serving sister: Wayne senior Selena Mahon will miss the first week of games while going through Army basic training, then will be reunited with sister and teammate, sophomore Brittany Mahon.

Making a move: Jim LaBorde moves from the Snider girls program to coach the Leo boys.

Out for season: Homestead sophomore midfielder Hannah Dolfuss, an All-NHC first-team selection in 2012, will miss the season with a torn ACL.

Staying put: While other athletic teams at the school moved up a class because of enrollment, Bishop Luers reamins in Class A after advancing to the semistate last year.

First polls: The first coaches’ polls of the season will come out Monday.
