Kudos to the NCAA for ignoring its silly rules for once and doing right by a student-athlete.
That wasn't so hard, now was it, guys?
And if it represents a sea change in the way the NCAA usually operates -- blindered to anything but a strict, pedantic, down-the-line interpretation of the almighty rules -- we can likely take it as a welcome sign of the times. The NCAA could get away with ignoring criticism when it still held college athletics in an iron grip. But that grip is loosening, and so ... voila. An obvious reaction to getting killed, absolutely killed, in the court of public opinion in this specific instance.
Or so it seems here.
