Natural causes to teacher’s death

The Allen County Coroner’s Office has ruled that the Snider High School teacher found dead in his classroom over the weekend died from natural causes.

Bruce Crist, 52, went to Snider on Saturday to prepare for the first day of school, which was Monday.

When he did not return home, his wife became concerned and alerted authorities, Fort Wayne police said.

A firefighter looking for Crist found him dead in his classroom at his computer, police said.

The coroner’s office said Monday that Crist’s specific cause of death will be determined after a pathologist’s review, which is expected to take several weeks.

Crist, an English teacher and tennis coach, had been diagnosed with heart problems about 10 years ago, and since then, he had been taking aspirin to help his condition, police said.

A Fort Wayne Community Schools spokeswoman said previously that counselors would be made available to students and teachers Monday and in coming days.

Funeral arrangements are pending with D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 East Dupont Road.
