Gas station in Rotten Egg probe loses liquor permit

FORT WAYNE – The Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission revoked a Fort Wayne store's alcohol permit Wednesday after an investigation into the sale of synthetic marijuana look-alike substances as air freshener.

Coliseum Petroleum, a BP-branded gas station at 909 Coliseum Blvd. E., will no longer be able to sell beer and wine, the commission announced Thursday.

The commission said the substance was hidden in plastic eggs labeled as Rotten Egg Car Freshener that was being sold for $5 an egg. On May 24, the store's clerk told excise officers she sold 25 of the eggs already that day, according to a statement released by the Indiana State Excise Police.

Excise officers cited the store for two administrative-law violations of the Alcoholic Beverage Code -- public nuisance (drugs) and failure to maintain a high and fine reputation.

The commission said the store's manager, Aman Dasson, 28, of Fort Wayne, pleaded guilty to dealing in a synthetic marijuana look-alike substance in Allen Superior Court this week and paid a fine.

Anyone with information on stores with synthetic drugs or look-alike substances may provide an anonymous tip to the State Excise Police at 260-244-4285.
