Firefighters leave industrial complex

Although fire investigators continue to sift through the crumbled remains of the industrial buildings destroyed in a blaze Monday afternoon, the city’s firefighters were called off the site Wednesday when officials determined the fire had been fully suppressed.

Fort Wayne Fire Department spokeswoman Stacey Fleming said it could be several days before officials can confirm the cause of the fire or determine the total cost of damage.

The fire was reported shortly before 2:30 p.m. Monday in a group of industrial buildings just south of the Tecumseh Street Bridge. The fire virtually leveled all the structures involved, and firefighters were unable to bring the flames under control until nearly six hours later.

Fleming said more information should be available Thursday as investigators continue to search through the debris.
