Carroll volleyball opens with sweep

– Carroll’s volleyball team made a rousing debut Wednesday night.

The Chargers rolled over host Huntington North in their season opener, 25-13, 25-18, 30-28, led by Jacqueline Quade and Charlotte Conser. Quade led the Chargers with 13 kills and Conser added 10.

Conser also had three services aces and a team-high nine digs.


WARSAW 3, SNIDER 0: The visitors proved rude guests at Snider, winning 25-21, 25-15, 25-8. The Panthers managed just 16 kills and 16 points off their service.


CARROLL 3, LEO 2: The Chargers won both doubles matches in straight sets to pull it out at Leo. Dillon Fernando and Jay Stanchin won 6-3, 6-4, and Hunter Davis and Ryan Van Wyngarden won 6-1, 6-4. Austin Legere got the other win No. 2 singles, 7-5, 6-3.

NORWELL 3, CONCORDIA 2: Jordan Dickey and Kyler Boots won in straight sets in singles to lead the Knights. Alex Hunter and Brandon Burch won 6-2, 6-2 in No. 1 doubles for the other point.

SNIDER 3, DEKALB 2: Matt Golm won a three-setter at No. 1 singles and so did Collin Moord and Greg Shoda at No. 1 doubles. Golm won 7-6, 2-6, 7-5 and Moord and Shoda won 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Stephen Halstead won at No. 3 singles.

WARSAW 5, HUNTINGTON NORTH 0: Kyle Wettschurack, Sam Rice and Caleb Ray won in straight sets in singles to pace the Tigers’ shutout at Warsaw.

WAWASEE 4, LAKELAND 1: At Lakeland, the Warriors got straight-set wins from Kyler Love (6-2, 6-1) and Cal Heinsich (6-3, 6-4) in singles and straight-set wins from Dylan Houser and Chase Myers (6-4, 6-0) and Doug Hapner and Jake Hutchinson (6-2, 6-3) in doubles.


DEKALB 204, NEW HAVEN 235: Hope Kelham shot a 45 for medalist honors to lead the Barons at Whispering Creek.

COLUMBIA CITY 194, NORTHROP 225: McKenzie Lane shot 42 and Cheyenne Johnson 48 to lead the Eagles at Colonial Oaks.
