TinCaps top Bowling Green in series finale

Fort Wayne's offense roared back to life, and the TinCaps avoided a sweep with a 7-4 win against Bowling Green on Monday at Bowling Green Ballpark.

Third baseman Gabriel Quintana got the bats going for Fort Wayne (69-63, 26-37 second half) in the third inning with a two-run home run off Hot Rods starter Reinaldo Lopez. The two-out homer was Quintana's ninth of the year and gave the TinCaps a 2-1 lead.

Fort Wayne stayed ahead of Bowling Green (77-55, 39-25) the rest of the way.

San Diego first-round pick Hunter Renfroe went 2 for 5 with a RBI double for the TinCaps, who are 7-3 in their last 10 games despite a sloppy second half of the season. Fort Wayne made the most of its seven hits against the Hot Rods, who lead the Midwest League Eastern Division in the second half and will likely face Fort Wayne again in the first round of the playoffs.

Second baseman Maxx Tissenbaum led the offense the rest of the way with a 3-for-3 day and four RBI. Fort Wayne chased Lopez off the mound in five innings with seven earned runs, all seven of the TinCaps' hits, four walks and three strikeouts to his credit.

Colin Rae, who is usually a reliever, got the win in his first start for the TinCaps. He also went five innings, with four hits and three earned runs against him, as well as two walks and five strikeouts.
