Grants awarded for lake, river, creek projects

Projects at eight northeast Indiana locations have been awarded grants through the Lake and River Enhancement program, part of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Fish & Wildlife.

The LARE fee is paid by boat owners to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

Area projects getting grants, as described by the DNR:

  • Big and Little Turkey lakes in Steuben County, $10,000 for watershed land treatment.
  • Cable Run-Dewart Lake-Elkhart River in Noble and Kosciusko counties, $40,000 for design, build.
  • Croxton Ditch-Lake James in Steuben County, $93,000 for construction.
  • Eel River in Wabash County, $14,000 for engineering feasibility study.
  • James Lake in Kosciusko County, $19,000 for design, build.
  • Lake James in Steuben County, $31,000 for engineering feasibility study.
  • Lozier Drain/Chapman Lakes in Kosciusko County, $16,000 for design.
  • Pigeon Creek in Steuben County, $40,000 for watershed land treatment.
