FORT WAYNE – A Fort Wayne man who police said raped a woman at a city motel as she came to pick up her 10-month-old child faces multiple charges.
Demetrius T. Eldridge, 19, was arrested Aug. 21 when police were called to Motel 6, 3003 Coliseum Blvd. W., on a call about a disturbance, according to court documents.
The motel’s manager called police, saying she could hear a woman yelling for help and a child crying inside one of the rooms.
As police arrived about 3:30 p.m., the assailant ran from the motel. The man, identified as Eldridge, was arrested a short time later and returned to the motel where a woman told police he had raped her, court records said.
The woman said she went to the motel to pick up her young daughter from someone else, but when she arrived at the motel room, the man grabbed her and pulled her inside.
After the woman picked her child up off the floor, the man said he had a gun and threatened to use it, she told police. He then told her to put the child down and then he raped her, the woman told police.
Eldridge, of the 3100 block of Sundale Drive, was formally charged Tuesday with felony rape, sexual battery, criminal confinement and criminal deviate conduct. He was also charged with a misdemeanor count of resisting law enforcement by fleeing on foot.
Eldridge was being held in lieu of $63,250 bail.
