Police surround residence; suspect in battery not there

Fort Wayne police spent nearly seven hours trying to resolve a domestic battery case in which the suspect was believed barricaded inside his residence.

But when they entered the house shortly before 3 a.m. Wednesday, the suspect was nowhere to be found, city police said.

The investigation began shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday, when the victim said the attack occurred at the suspect’s residence in the 1600 block of Cass Street. The victim was elsewhere when she made the report.

Officers were unable to make contact with the suspect at his residence. Police later received information the suspect was possibly barricaded in the residence.

The Emergency Services Team and the Crisis Response Team were called about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, and Crisis Response Team members made repeated attempts to communicate with the suspect, police said.

Emergency Services Team members tried to order him from the house using a loudspeaker.

When they didn’t get a response, Emergency Services Team officers entered the residence about 3 a.m., the report said.
