A 44-year-old Fort Wayne man was convicted of disarming a law enforcement officer after a two-day jury trial in Allen Superior Court.
Vincent Castaneda, of the 1100 block of Third Street, was charged with disarming a law enforcement officer and resisting law enforcement. He was shot by police in March 2012 after he eluded officers with a vehicle reported stolen and then physically fought with them inside his kitchen, police said.
After Fort Wayne police officer Jason Crowder used a stun gun to subdue him, Castaneda took the Taser from the officer. Crowder then shot Castaneda in the stomach with his handgun, police said.
The jury convicted him after about 2 1/2 hours of deliberations. Judge Fran Gull set sentencing for Sept. 27.
