8-run inning puts TinCaps up big

A two-out single from shortstop Tyler Stubblefield in the bottom of the second got Fort Wayne started, and the TinCaps haven't stopped en route to a 9-0 lead over Great Lakes after three innings.

TinCaps starter Walker Weickel exited the game after two innings in what appears to be an injury-related end to his outing. Fellow starter Bryan Rodriguez came on in his stead and retired the side in order in the third.

Fort Wayne has hit the ball hard off Loons starter Brandon Martinez. The TinCaps have made contact on all but two at-bats: a walk by left fielder Luis Domoromo and a swinging strikeout by right fielder Hunter Renfroe.

The TinCaps got consecutive base hits from catcher Rodney Daal and center fielder Mallex Smith to start the third inning. Right fielder Brian Adams moved the pair over on a sacrifice bunt, and a base hit by second baseman Maxx Tissenbaum brought the second run of the game in.

Third baseman Diego Goris came up after Tissenbaum and smacked the fourth hit of the inning, a line drive single to center that made it 3-0. Renfroe struck out, but the volley of balls in play paid off again with two outs.

Domoromo came up with a high-hopping grounder to shortstop Brandon Trinkwon, who made an error on the throw and allowed another run to cross. Then, first baseman Luis Domoromo knocked a ground ball double to right field, and the TinCaps pushed their lead to six.

It didn't stop there.

Fort Wayne got doubles from Stubblefield and Daal to make it 8-0, Smith walked and Brian Adams pushed a ground ball to third that the Loons' Brandon Dixon couldn't handle. The onslaught continued, 9-0.

The man who drove in the first run of the third, Tissenbaum, grounded out to short to finally end the frame.
