‘Coffee with Coats’ this morning

Sen. Dan Coats will be in Fort Wayne today for a “Coffee with Coats” session with constituents.

The event, also dubbed “Facing Hoosiers,” will be from 8:45 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Aboite Township Trustee’s Office and Fire Department, 11321 Aboite Center Road.

The informal sessions allow Hoosiers to meet with Coats and discuss how some of the latest issues in Washington affect them, a news release from the senator’s office said. Coats can take the input and ideas back to Washington, the release said.

Contract awarded for water main

Fort Wayne Board of Public Works members voted Wednesday to award a $1,049,415 contract to Rothenberger Co. for water main replacement around Gaywood Drive and Capitol, McKinnie and Weisser Park avenues.

The contract calls for the installation of about 10,572 linear feet of 6-inch pipe, 25 fire hydrants and 31 valves, which will serve 341 homes and businesses.

This contract raises the total amount of water mains being replaced this year to 7.5 miles; the city is currently bidding another project that will put it over its goal of 9 miles of replacement.

Hospital renovates parking garage

St. Joseph Hospital is renovating one of its parking garages, which will temporarily reduce the number of available spaces, officials announced Wednesday.

The work, which will be done in three phases, will initially close the north side of the garage, including the doors and the elevators that provide access to the attached medical office building.

Patients and visitors who find walking a challenge are encouraged to use the free valet parking that is available at the hospital’s main entrance from 5 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. weekdays.

The office building may also be reached by exiting the garage at ground level and entering the attached facility through its main doors along Broadway.

The second-floor walkway from the medical office building to the hospital will remain open.

Public access from the garage to the medical office building is expected to resume late this fall.

Later work will affect other areas of the parking garage.
