Masked robbers take cash, cigarettes

Two men armed with semi automatic weapons robbed a gas station early Friday.

A store clerk at Stop and Go, 4233 Clinton St., told police that he was standing near the ice machine at the rear of the store when he heard the door buzzer sound and walked to the front counter.

As the clerk approached the register, the men pointed guns at him and demanded he give them money. The clerk emptied the register and his pockets and the men then asked for the combination to the store’s safe, but the clerk said he did not have it.

One of the men stole 25 or 30 packs of cigarettes and both fled out the back door.

A police dog tracked the men along a brush line to the east side of Kittle’s Furniture store.

The men were wearing black masks over their faces, hooded sweatshirts and gloves.
