Michigan casino buys naming rights to South Bend field

SOUTH BEND – A minor league baseball team in northern Indiana has sold the naming rights to its baseball field to an Indian-owned casino in Michigan.

The South Bend Silver Hawks announced the gate at the city-owned park will identify the stadium as Four Winds Field at Stanley Coveleski Stadium. Financial terms of the 10-year deal between the Silver Hawks and Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, the owners of Four Winds Casino, weren't announced.

Silver Hawks owner Andrew Berlin says the deal means that taxpayer money won't be used for capital improvements at the stadium for at least 10 years.

The Silver Hawks are a Class A minor league team affiliated with the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Four Winds Casino is in New Buffalo, Mich., about 30 miles from South Bend.
