Statement as issued Sunday by the Indiana State Police:
Porter County- A semi driver lost his life this morning, at approximately 9:35 A.M., this Sunday, September 8, 2013, on I-90 westbound at the 26 mile marker (this is approximately five miles west of the State road 49 exit) on the Indiana Toll Road.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Arthur Latiker revealed that a 2014 Freightliner semi pulling a box trailer was west bound when for unknown reasons veered off the roadway and hit the concrete bridge deck.
The driver was ejected and pinned under the box trailer; and had to be extracted out from underneath.
The driver was taken to Porter Regional Hospital in Valparaiso and later pronounced dead.
Family HAS been notified. The driver has been identified as Michael P. Hall, 48 of Covington, Georgia.
The semi was loaded with frozen dinners which were strewn across the median and roadway. The left lanes east and west bound are closed leaving one lane open in each direction. The lanes are closed for reconstruction of the crash, removal of the driver, semi tractor/trailer and clean-up of the load loss and road.
