Kitchen fire out within 7 minutes

A kitchen fire damaged a south-side house Saturday.

Two adults and two children escaped the home at 4615 Smith St., near South Anthony Boulevard and East Pettit Avenue, before firefighters arrived at 4:15 p.m.

With smoke coming from the back of the house and from the attic, crews doused flames in the kitchen, the department said.

The fire was under control seven minutes after firefighters showed up. The damage was moderate.

The cause is under investigation.
