Fla. AG: It was wrong to ask for execution delay

By GARY FINEOUTAssociated Press

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi says it was wrong for her office to seek to delay the execution of a former escort service owner because of a campaign fundraiser.

Gov. Rick Scott delayed the execution of convicted killer Marshall Lee Gore from Tuesday until Oct. 1 at Bondi's request. The original execution date conflicted with a Bondi fundraiser.

Gore's execution had been delayed twice before because of court decisions. Bondi's office said late Monday that her office should have not requested another delay.

Scott said Monday that he did not know why Bondi asked for the delay.

Bondi's reason for wanting the date delayed was initially reported by The News Service of Florida.

Gore was convicted in the 1988 slayings of two women and the attempted killing of a third.
