South Bend leads in winner-take-all matchup

SOUTH BEND -- An error in the bottom of the third inning has put Fort Wayne's playoff future in jeopardy at Four Winds Field. South Bend leads the TinCaps 1-0 after three innings.

The TinCaps have committed two errors behind starter Joe Ross but nearly got out of the inning with no damage done. Fort Wayne catcher Rodney Daal made a play at the plate to save a run in the third as center fielder Breland Almadova tried to score from second on a shallow hit to center. Alberth Martinez picked up the assist, and the TinCaps had two outs with a runner on second,

But third baseman Brandon Drury came up with a clutch single to left field, and the throw from left fielder Luis Domoromo was off-target and not in time.

Silver Hawks starter Aaron Blair, the 36th overall pick in the 2013 MLB draft, has struck out four and given up one hit in three innings. Fort Wayne has yet to advance a runner past first base.
