Call him ‘Bill Nye, invisible guy’

Thursday was supposed to be the kick-off event for IPFW’s Omnibus Lecture series. All seats for the address by Bill Nye, a scientist and host of the popular “Bill Nye the Science Guy,” TV show were spoken for.

But Nye bowed out last week, citing the short time between his scheduled appearance and the premiere of “Dancing with the Stars,” where he will be a celebrity contestant.

The last-minute cancellation illustrates the challenge Omnibus organizers have negotiating with high-profile public speakers. Let’s just hope his dancing prowess proves to be stronger than his commitment to lecture appearances.

All is not lost. Allen County Public Library will host Lincoln scholar and Pulitzer Prize-winning author James M. McPherson at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the lower-level theater of the downtown library.
