My husband is sad and through no fault of my own. I had told him to get on it. Instead, he waited. Waited it was until too late.
Too late for him to run Fort4Fitness this year.
Mark has run the race twice -- the half marathon in 2010 and the 4-miler last year. The 2010 race was his own, running by himself and finishing more than 10 minutes faster than his goal time. Last year, though, he was kind enough to pace me to a PR in the distance, helping to best my post-partum time by 4 minutes.
While the race last year was a good effort on his part, it wasn't his best and he was really hoping to go gun-ho this year and finish with a sub-7 pace.
But he kept waiting for this week and then that week to register, and by the time he was actually ready to get ducks in a row, our baby-sitter (OK, my mother-in-law) was unavailable to entertain our son while Mark finished the 4-mile race and I started the half marathon.
I've told him that there are other races. The River City Rat Race, perhaps, or the Run 4 Riley, but to him, neither are Fort4Fitness. To him, there's something about this event and his desire to do well.
While I've told him his chances for this year are over, I'm secretly hoping I can get someone to help out, but I have to do it quick. Registration for the 2013 events ends Sept. 14 -- Saturday. If you want to run, it's now or never.
OK. It's now or next year.
