Trespass suspect held after chase

Metzger

A Claypool man has been arrested and accused of trespassing, reckless driving and resisting police after a chase on U.S. 30.

The Warsaw Police Department said officers were called to the Meijer at 1200 Lake City Highway shortly after 5:15 p.m. Monday about a man causing problems and refusing to leave.

Police said David L. Metzger, 33, was warned multiple times to leave the property and that he did leave the store after he was given a written trespass warning.

Instead of driving away, police said, Metzger simply moved his Suzuki SX4 to another parking spot. Officers told him he was under arrest and tried to open his door, but he took off, police said, avoiding an attempt to stop it in the lot.

Metzger went east on U.S. 30, with police in pursuit. The police used “stop sticks” near Center Street but said that Metzger did not stop until he lost a shredded tire east of County Road 250 East.

Police said Metzger continued to resist after the vehicle was stopped, including attempts to bite those dealing with him at the Kosciusko County Jail.

Metzger was booked into the jail on a felony charge of resisting law enforcement with a motor vehicle, trespass and reckless driving. His bail was set at $2,000.
