1 held in bait shop burglary attempt

A Pierceton man is accused of trying to break into a northeast Indiana bait shop Thursday morning.

The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department said Joshua Todd Eyer, 28, was stopped this morning after a report came in that someone was trying to burglarize the Number One Bait and Tackle Store at Indiana 13 and County Road 350 North.

Officers from North Webster, Pierceton and the sheriff’s department responded to the 6:21 a.m. call, the sheriff's department said in a statement. It said a Pierceton officer stopped Eyer just east of Indiana 13 at County Road 200 North.

The sheriff’s department said Eyer tossed a stolen gas can out of the vehicle before he was stopped.

It said he has been preliminarily charged with felony theft and attempted burglary of a business, and was being held in the Kosciusko County Jail on $5,000 bond.
