Gunman takes cash from restaurant

A man with a handgun robbed a chicken restaurant Tuesday afternoon in southeast Fort Wayne, according to a city police report.

Shortly before 3 p.m., the man came into Popeye’s at South Clinton and East Pontiac streets. He approached the counter and demanded cash, the report said.

One of the employees told him to stop joking around, and the man pulled a handgun, saying he was serious. The employees took the cash drawers out of two registers and placed them on the counter.

The robber stole an undisclosed amount of cash from one drawer but left the second untouched, the report said.

Police searched the area but did not find the robber who was described as 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10 and white. He wore a black shirt with a white towel draped over his head, the report stated.
