Three armed men looking to hold up an east-side gas station Wednesday learned that the business was not yet open and there was no cash to steal, according to a Fort Wayne police report.
About 4:30 a.m., an employee was stocking the Marathon station at 3217 E. Washington Blvd. when the three men, all carrying handguns, entered through an unlocked door, the report said.
They ordered the employee to the floor and went through his pockets, taking his cellphone, wallet, cash and the keys to his sport utility vehicle. The robbers asked him where the safe was, and he explained the store hadn’t opened for business and that there was no safe, the report said.
The men locked the employee in a closet, and one of the men stole his vehicle while the others fled on foot, the report said.
The robbers all appeared to be 25 years old. They wore black pants, T-shirts, gloves and hats and were described as black. One robber was 5-foot-9 and 160 pounds; another was 5-foot-8 and 150 pounds; and the third was 6-foot and 180 pounds, the report stated.
