The two-year talks are finally over.
General Motors Co. has reached a contract agreement with members of United Auto Workers Local 2209, which represents workers at the Allen County truck assembly plant.
GM negotiates a master contract with the UAW on issues including wages, paid leave and health insurance. The local agreement includes issues related to seniority and outsourcing.
A GM spokeswoman said the company doesnt comment on contract negotiations.
Rich LeTourneau, who represented the union, said the two sides tried to talk every day during the past two years but sometimes stayed away from the bargaining table for weeks at a time when talks broke down.
LeTourneau considers it a victory that a few hundred jobs will become permanent. The positions were previously filled by temporary workers who werent given paid vacation, sick leave or other benefits, he said.
The current four-year contract has two years remaining.
