MILFORD — A $30 million fertilizer and grain facility being built in Kosciusko County has local officials abuzz about the $6 million it could pump into the area economy.
The Elkhart Truth reports that Trupointe Cooperative bought a 275-acre site in Milford along the Elkhart County line in November. Company officials cited the successful agriculture industry and access to two main rail lines in choosing the site.
Trupointe has agricultural cooperatives in western Ohio and northeastern Indiana.
About 35 local companies have been hired to help with construction since March.
Trupointe construction manager Tom Miller says using Indiana companies for the facility has been a priority.
The facility expects to employ about 35 people.
The fertilizer portion of the operation should open in 2014. The grain elevator will follow.
