SOUTH BEND – Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly, at the top of his postgame news conference, mentioned perceived error on the snap or hold with the field goal unit.

Notre Dame QB Malik Zaire's status a mystery

Notre Dame freshman quarterback Malik Zaire's status remains up in the air.

Zaire posted on his Twitter account Sunday that he had been cleared to return after missing the first three games with mononucleosis.

But coach Brian Kelly said Zaire may not be returning this week as the No. 22 Irish (2-1) get ready to play host to Michigan State (3-0) on Saturday.

"He might be suspended for violating the rules relative to information," Kelly said during his Sunday teleconference. "We will have to get back to you on that."

Kelly also wouldn't say if Zaire would practice this week.

"I don't know; we will have to talk to the doctor first," Kelly said.

Notre Dame will have backup linebacker Kendall Moore and backup safety Eilar Hardy back this week, Kelly said. Moore and Hardy were suspended from Notre Dame's 31-24 win at Purdue because of violation of team rules.

Kelly also said the Irish came out of the game against the Boilermakers (1-2) without any serious injuries.

"In a physical game, some bumps and bruises, but after meeting with the doctor today, we might have a guy here or there that couldn't go on Tuesday," Kelly said. "But it looks like if we were putting together a questionable/doubtful, we don't have any of that right now."
