Proud Notre Dame father

SOUTH BEND – Notre Dame safety Austin Collinsworth has plenty of postgame reading this season.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound senior can always count on his father and NBC Sunday Night Football game analyst Cris Collinsworth to send a text after each game.

"He's really enjoyed watching," Austin Collinsworth said. "He's had a lot of fun. He sends me one of the longest texts ever after the games."

But for as long as those texts are, Austin said his father, who played eight seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, refrains from telling him how he performed.

"It's a lot of congratulatory stuff," Austin said. "He's a dad, and he's a proud dad. He leaves the critiquing to the coaches. He's just being a fan."

Cris' pride and fandom have spilled over to NBC broadcasts, according to Austin.

"I don't tell him to, but it's fun at the end of the day," Austin said.
