1 killed in Toll Road crash near Elkhart

One person was killed after the 2003 Chevrolet Corvette they were driving struck a semi about 10 p.m. Tuesday near the 100-mile marker on the Indiana Toll Road in Bristol in Elkhart County, according to the Indiana State Police.

According to a witness, the driver of the Corvette failed to slow down before hitting the back of the semi, which was stopped in traffic because of a truck fire on the road earlier in the evening, the police said.

The driver of the Corvette, a Nebraska man, was transported by helicopter to South Bend Memorial Hospital where he later died. The driver of the semi was taken to Elkhart General Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released.
