Local CASA director wins state recognition

Rex McFarren, director of Allen County’s Court Appointed Special Advocate program, has been selected as Indiana CASA Director of the Year for 2013.

The CASA program provides the court with trained community volunteers who are appointed to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children in Allen County.

CASA volunteers provide an independent assessment to the judges and magistrates on behalf of the children and make recommendations for the appropriate placement of the children along with services to help the family heal.

McFarren has been director of CASA in Allen County since 1985.

He said: “I am humbled and honored. I work under an innovative judge, with dedicated, professional co-workers, and the most marvelous, energetic people you could meet – the CASA volunteers, who made this award possible.”
