Formal charges filed in officer sexual misconduct case

Allen County prosecutors filed formal charges Thursday against Fort Wayne police officer Mark Rogers, charging him with sexual misconduct, official misconduct and misdemeanor false information.

Earlier this week, Rogers, 45, was arrested on the same preliminary charges after a woman filed a report stating she had been sexually assaulted by the 19-year veteran.

Rogers, a crime scene technician, was working on a drunken driving enforcement patrol Sept. 1 and picked the woman up for driving while intoxicated, according to court documents filed earlier this week.

Because of her level of intoxication, Rogers took her to St. Joseph Hospital for treatment. After she was released, Rogers put her in handcuffs in the back of the squad car and then drove her to a park where he sexually assaulted her.

After the assault, Rogers drove her home, according to court documents.

When he was questioned by investigators with the Allen County Sheriff’s Department, Rogers said he left the woman at the hospital and returned to the police operations center, a story that conflicted with video camera footage from the hospital.
