News and notes
- Purdue is No. 31 in the country in run defense after giving up an average of 117 yards in its first three games. The Badgers are fifth in the nation in rushing offense, with 337 yards per game. One of those averages is bound to be thrown off considerably after this game. The Boilermakers will rely on defensive line standouts Bruce Gaston, Ryan Russell and Greg Latta to help shut down a Wisconsin rushing attack led by Melvin Gordon, James White and Corey Clement. The trio has 113 carries, 1,025 yards and nine touchdowns. They get 9.1 yards per carry as a unit. Gordon leads the way with 12.9 yards per carry.
- This will be the second week in a row that Purdue faces a ranked opponent, and the second of three games in a row in which the Boilermakers play a 2012-13 season BCS bowl team. The Irish competed for the National Championship last season, Wisconsin played in the Rose Bowl and Northern Illinois, Purdue's opponent next week, was in the Orange Bowl in January.
