City officer seriously injured on way to call

A Fort Wayne Police officer was seriously hurt late Thursday when his squad car crashed into a pole on the city's southeast side. The officer was driving south on Wayne Trace, just north of Drexel Avenue, and went off the road about 10:15 p.m. The driver's side of the squad car struck the pole near a former gas station on the west side of the road. A sergeant at the scene said the officer, whose name was not released, was taken to a hospital in serious condition. It was not clear what sort of call the officer was responding to.
