Notre Dame, Michigan State tied after three

SOUTH BEND – Notre Dame will be on Michigan State's 22-yard line with the game tied at 10 when the fourth quarter starts.

The No. 22 Irish got a few things to go their way near the end of the third quarter as the Spartans attempted a halfback pass that was intercepted by safety Matthias Farley.

The Irish junior returned the pick 29 yards, and Notre Dame got an extra 15 yards when Michigan State was called for a personal foul. Spartans cornerback Dennard Darqueze tried to squash the threat with an interception, but his pick was negated when he was called for pass interference to keep the Irish drive going.

Michigan State opened the second half with something that was nearly impossible in the first half.

The Spartans put together a long drive that was sustained without the assist of a penalty, but the Irish got a minor victory by forcing Michigan State to settle for a field goal at the end of it.

Michigan State went 75 yards in 15 plays, chewing up 8:39 of clock, but the Spartans could only tie the game at 10 with a 25-yard field goal from Michael Geiger. Michigan State, which only ran for 46 yards in the first half, gained 44 rushing yards on its first possession of the second half.
