Former IU athletic director dies

Paul Dietzel, the athletic director at Indiana from 1976-78 who is best known for his time at Louisiana State as a football coach in the '50s and '60s, died Tuesday. He was 89.

Dietzel's cause of death, according to this article from USA Today, was not immediately available. Along with his time with the Hoosiers, and at LSU as both a coach and later as an athletic director, Dietzel coached at Army and South Carolina.

The Ohio native also served as an athletic administrator at South Carolina from 1966-75 and was the commissioner of the Ohio Valley Conference in 1975. He rounded out his career as the Tigers' athletic director from 1978-82.
