Spartans clinch NHC share

The Homestead boys tennis team clinched at least a share of the NHC title with a 3-2 win over host Norwell on Tuesday.

The Spartans (8-4, 6-0 NHC) got wins from Jordan Andrews at No. 2 singles, Sang Jun Park at No. 3 singles and Jack Stanley and Mitch Gilbert at No. 2 doubles.

Norwell (10-3, 4-1) got wins from Jordan Dickey at No. 1 singles and Brandon Burch and Alex Hunter at No. 1 doubles.

Cross country

BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN INVITATIONAL: Northrop won the boys team title with 47 points, while Fremont took the girls side with 20 points.

For the boys, Blackhawk Christian was second with 49, Bellmont third with 54 and Fremont fourth with 74. Bellmont was second with 43, Northrop third with 59 and Blackhawk Christian fourth with 108 for the girls.

Dustin Starnes won the boys individual title at 17:55, while Bellmont’s Bailey Beery was first for the girls at 18:49.

WARSAW 3, CANTERBURY 2: The Class 2A No. 6 Tigers slipped past the No. 15 Cavaliers at home. Manuel Rodriguez had two goals for Warsaw, the 2012 2A state runners-up.


ADAMS CENTRAL 5, CHURUBUSCO 0: The Jets’ No. 1 doubles team of Ben Kaehr and Conner Lengerich improved to 13-0 with two wins at home. The team finished off a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win over Leo’s Tyler Christlieb and Dustin Lukemire because of a previous match being suspended by rain, and then beat the Eagles’ Luke and Landon Lillmars 6-4, 6-0 in the regularly scheduled match.


HOMESTEAD 3, DEKALB 2: The visiting Spartans won in five, 23-25, 23-25, 25-18, 27-25, 15-5.

Cassidy Geller had 17 kills and Suzanne Peters 16 for Homestead.
