One firefighter was injured in fighting a two-story duplex fire on Lake Avenue Thursday afternoon, the Fort Wayne Fire Department said.
The firefighter, who was not identified, was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, the fire department said in a statement.
The statement said firefighters responded about 2:10 p.m. to a fire in a duplex at 930 and 932 Lake Ave., and determined the primary fire was in the rear of the southeast corner of 932 Lake Ave. on the first and second floor.
Crews determined no one was home in either unit, but because of the size of the duplex and the proximity of neighboring houses, an additional crew was called to the scene, the statement said.
It said firefighters controlled the fire in 37 minutes, but early tonight firefighters remained at the scene for extensive overhaul and to ensure all fire and hot spots were extinguished.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, the statement said. It said Fort Wayne police, the Three Rivers Ambulance Authority, American Electric Power, Northern Indiana Public Service Co. and the city's neighborhood code department assisted at the scene.
