Flu shot available at clinics

Flu vaccines are now available for children and adults at the Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health Immunization Clinic.

Both the injection and nasal spray varieties are available while supplies last. Parents must make an appointment for child vaccinations and bring immunization records.

The injectable and nasal spray vaccine is free to those on Medicaid or those without insurance or with insurance that does not cover vaccines. There is a $9 administration fee per vaccination. For all others, the injectable form is available for $19 and the intranasal version for $30, including administration fee.

Anyone can get the flu virus, but older adults, people with weakened immune systems and people with chronic health conditions are more likely to become seriously ill or die from the flu or its complications.

Call the Immunization Clinic, 4813 New Haven Ave., at 449-7514 to make an appointment. Clinic hours are 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Children younger than 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian with appropriate consent.

Super Shot Inc. also has flu vaccines for children and teens at eight locations throughout the county. Call 424-7468 for time and locations or visit supershot.org for a schedule and more information.

Adults who want a flu vaccine can also check with their physician or visit a local pharmacy.
