Sophomore forward leaves Purdue

Redshirt sophomore forward Donnie Hale, a New Albany native, plans to leave Purdue, coach Matt Painter announced Friday.

The 6-foot-8, 221-pounder will transfer to Division II Bellarmine, according to The Courier-Journal.

Hale averaged 3.8 points and 2.8 rebounds in 32 games for the Boilermakers last season. He started eight games.

“We thank him for his hard work and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors,” Painter said in a statement.

Because he is transferring from a Division I program to the Division II level, Hale will be immediately eligible to play for the Knights.

Purdue will have to lean heavily on sophomore A.J. Hammons and redshirt freshman Jay Simpson in the frontcourt, as well as graduate transfer Errick Peck and senior Travis Carroll.
