At about 3:17 p.m., police were called to the 1100 block of Oxford Street, near the intersection of Oxford and Smith streets, on a report about a man being shot, according to a release from the Fort Wayne Police Department.

A witness told police that the man was standing in the street and talking with people who were inside an SUV, the release said.

The witness said there was a gun shot and the man fell to the ground as the SUV fled westbound on Oxford Street.

The man was taken to a local hospital where he was listed in critical condition, according to the release.

Police did not have a description of the SUV or the people inside it and do not have suspects. No other injuries were reported.
