Playoff format determined

The ECHL has determined its playoff format for this season will include 16 teams.

In the Komets' Eastern Conference, the top eight teams will qualify, regardless of division. In the Western Conference, the two division winners will get berths, as will the six best remaining teams.

The ECHL also approved a new penalty: A two-minute minor for any player who removes his helmet before a fight.

The Komets open training camp Sunday.
